GREENWICH, Conn., Dec. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Janet and John are total strangers -- living on opposite coasts. But together they are buying a $400 gravy boat for their mutual friend Susan.
How was this partnership possible? Through a new on-line gift registry called Felicite.com. Felicite.com offers guests the option of making partial purchases. So instead of getting a toaster, a guest could purchase $50 of something more substantial, like a $400 gravy boat. If not enough guests contribute to the gift, Felicite.com will give the cash or a gift certificate to the bride and she can decide whether to make up the difference herself or substitute something cheaper. See http://www.felicite.com/.
``When we set up Felicite.com, we first researched what brides liked and disliked about conventional gift registries,'' says Hans Hsu, co-founder and CEO. ``One of the biggest complaints was that conventional gift registries quickly run out of lower priced gifts and the expensive gifts remain unbought.''
``Another was that brides do not like having to register at several different stores,'' says Hsu, ``so we engineered our site to be a universal registry where they can register any gift, from any store, and even a cash gift like a donation or a honeymoon fund. This way they can register all their gifts in one place, saving time for themselves and their guests.''
Unlike traditional gift registries, Felicite.com carries no inventory. When a gift is purchased, the company acts as a gift purchasing service and tries to find the gift from its suppliers. If it is unable to find the gift, it will give either cash or a gift certificate to the bride and let her purchase the gift herself. The company will also allow customers to set up a general wishlist for birthdays, baby showers, holidays, graduation, etc.
``We also give the bride a free personal web page where they can post a picture and free use of our on-line RSVP system,'' adds Hsu.
